What defines the car class
Standard passenger car, saloon, estate or hatchback. Recovered on a tilt-bed flatbed or by spec-lift suspended tow depending on transmission, driveline and ground clearance.
Weight band: Up to 3,500 kg gross vehicle weight. Equipment fitted to the recovery vehicle: Light vehicle category, spec-lift or tilt-bed flatbed.
- Front-wheel-drive automatics generally require all four wheels off the ground; the operator decides at the scene.
- All-wheel-drive cars are recovered on a flatbed by default to avoid driveline damage.
- Cars with very low ground clearance (under 100 mm) are loaded using extended approach ramps to avoid bumper damage.
